Heart-Shaped Pan Pizza (Valentine’s Edition)
Made entirely in one SCANPAN pan, this heart-shaped pan pizza is a fun and easy Valentine’s recipe with plenty of homemade charm. The non-stick surface helps create a crisp, golden base with effortless release, while the hob-to-oven flexibility gives you the option of extra colour and bubbling cheese on top. Perfect for a relaxed date-night dinner, it is simple, playful and full of flavour.
Prep: 15 mins - dough, sauce and shaping the heart | Cook: 20 mins - base cooking + topping and melting cheese | Serves: 2 ( or 1 generous Valentine’s portion)
Ingredients
- 225g self-raising flour, plus extra for dusting
- ½ tsp baking powder
- Large pinch of salt
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 6–7 tbsp warm water
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely sliced
- 2–3 garlic cloves, crushed
- 250g cherry tomatoes, halved
- 4 tbsp passata
- Handful of fresh basil, chopped (plus extra to serve)
- 75–100g mozzarella or 50g cheddar, grated
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and salt. Make a well in the centre, add the olive oil and gradually stir in the warm water until a soft dough forms. Knead briefly on a floured surface for about 1 minute, until smooth and pliable. Shape into a ball, cover with a tea towel and rest for 5 minutes.
- Heat the olive oil in a frying pan over a medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook gently for 5 minutes until softened. Stir in the cherry tomatoes and passata, then simmer for 5–10 minutes until the tomatoes break down slightly. Remove from the heat, stir through the basil and season well. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Roll out the rested dough on a lightly floured surface to around 22cm wide. Using a small knife, carefully cut the dough into a heart shape. Thanks to SCANPAN’s non-stick surface, there’s no need to worry about delicate dough sticking or tearing when transferring it to the pan.
- Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a clean pan over a medium heat. Gently place the heart-shaped dough into the pan and press lightly to fit. Cook for 8–10 minutes until the base is golden and crisp underneath and the surface looks slightly dry.
- Preheat the oven to 220°C (or heat the grill if preferred). Spread the tomato mixture over the base and scatter over the cheese. Because SCANPAN pans are oven-safe up to 250°C, simply transfer the pan straight into the oven - no dish swapping needed. Bake for 5–8 minutes until the cheese is melted, bubbling and lightly golden.
- Finish with fresh basil, a drizzle of olive oil and a crack of black pepper. Slice and serve straight from the pan for an easy, romantic Valentine’s dinner.
